It’s that wonderful time of year again. Scór time! The competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the social/fun element of Ireland’s traditional past-times. Scór offers club members the chance to meet up, have fun and represent their club during the winter months while the outside games have ceased.
There are eight events/disciplines in Scór that cover all aspects of Irish culture: Figure/Céilí Dancing, Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Recitation/Scéalaíocht, Léiriú Stáitse/Stage Presentation, Instrumental Music, Set Dancing and Table Quiz. The competition is divided into two age levels, Scór na nÓg, for young people under 17 and Scór Sinsir, for those over 17.
The date for the club Scór na nÓg final hasn’t been finalised as yet but the winners will go forward to County semi-final 19th/20th October and then on to the County Final (date not finalised). The winners go on to the Provincial final on the 14th/15th January and finally on to the All-Ireland Final 11th February in The Waterfront, Belfast. We are always looking for adults to assist with mentoring/training teams/individuals and this year is no exception. We would love new people with fresh ideas and an interest in dancing or singing or acting or question time to join us in preparing for Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir competitions. We would also like all mentors/trainers from last year wishing to assist again this year to please make contact with any member on the Scór committee.
St Dominic’s will begin Scór na nÓg (8-17years) 2016/2017 competition with registration on Tuesday 27th September at 8pm in the meeting room at the pitch. Anyone interested in taking part in any of the above events/disciplines please attend or contact any member of the committee: Chairperson Sylvia Kilcline 086 7702068, Secretary Anita O’Keeffe 0879933177.
The Scór committee is looking forward to another successful and enjoyable year.
