Senior Football: O’Gara Cup: St. Dominics 0-14 Castlerea St. Kevins 0-10 St. Dominics secured another two points when they overcame Castlerea on Sunday last in O’Rourke Park to place them joint second in the league table. Full match report next week. The next fixture is the Intermediate Football Championship on Saturday 7th May at 7pm versus Tulsk in Ballyleague.
Senior Hurling: Training for our senior hurlers takes place on Saturday evenings at 7pm. Everyone is asked to attend. All newcomers welcome.
Camogie: Senior: Our Hodson Bay Sponsored senior team made it three wins from three last Friday evening against Mullagh. The team have now qualified for the Semi-finals of the league. While the team and management have done well to reach this stage of the competition, they will both know that there is still a lot of work to be done. Training continues as usual, further details will be sent out via text. Best of luck to the County Junior team in the National League Division 3 final against Armagh next Saturday, 30th April, at 1.30pm in Kinnegad, especially the St Dominics players, Caroline Connaughton, Susan Spillane, Joanne Beattie, Caroline Dowling and Niamh Watson. U14: Best of luck to our U14 team and management in the Feile semi-final against Padraig Pearses on Monday evening at 7.15pm. U12, U10 and U8 Camogie continues at the usual times, details will be sent via text.
Ladies Football: Combined U6/U8/U10 ladies football continued on Saturday morning from 10am to 11am at St. John’s AstroTurf, details of training will be sent out by text, please remember your mouthguards and water. St. Dominic’s and Padraig Pearses play Round 3 in the U12 Southern League this Thursday 21st of April at 7pm in Woodmount. The U16 Division1B Final between St. Mary’s and St. Dominic’s took place on Sunday 24th of April at Kiltoom. The girls enjoyed an emphatic win well done to all. The panel on the day- E. Silke, S. Meanwhile training continues for all at 8pm next Friday evening at St. Dominic’s.
Minor Hurling: U10 boys commence training on Monday 25th of April from 7pm to 8pm at St. John’s astro pitch in Lecarrow, all are welcome. There will be no U14 training this Wednesday evening as the lads take a well-deserved break. Training will resume in a few weeks for the league. U12 training is due to commence soon details to be sent out by text. Our minor hurlers took on Four Roads in the minor Championship semi-final on Wednesday 20th of April last. Unfortunately the result did not go our way, final score 1-15 to 0-13. It was a gutsy display by St. Dominic’s and a thrilling game to watch. St. Dominic’s were without some key players and looked like they had the win however Four Roads scored a goal in the last 3 minutes. Great work rate by all well done.
Minor Football: St. Dominic’s Minors played Padraig Pearses on Friday 22nd April in Division 1 of the league, final score Pearses 1-11 St. Dominics 0.6 and the u14s played Oran in Rockfield on Thursday 21st in Division 2 of the league, final score Oran 6-11 St. Dominics 2-4. The U14s are down to play St. Aidans at home in Division 2 on Thursday 28th April at 7pm. The minors play Division 1 knock out on Friday 29th at 7pm and the U12s play Castlerea in O’Rourke Park in Saturday 30th April at 2pm, all fixtures to be confirmed.
Language and Culture: As part of our promotion of the Irish language, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Roscomáin are offering a number of grants to students who wish to improve their knowledge of the Irish language. Applications are invited from full time secondary school students in Co. Roscommon. Each grant is worth €200. Successful candidates from 2014 and 2015 may not take part in this competition. Two of the grants will be awarded to students who have taken part in the GAA Scor na nÓg competitions. Students are to apply with a short essay as Gaeilge (300 words) entitled: “An Cumann Lúthchleas Gael sa bhliain 2016” plus an application form which can be downloaded under the “Culture” Tab at www.gaaroscommon.ie Completed applications should be forwarded to Michael Mac Ghiolla Dhuinn, Oifigeach Cultúir agus Gaeilge, Roscommon County Board Office, Racecourse Road, Roscommon on or before Friday 29th April 2016, or via e-mail at irishculturalofficer.roscommon@gaa.ie Applications after this date will not be accepted.
