Senior Football: Dominics are this year’s Dermot Hughes Cars U20 C Football Championship winners after a hard fought 2-7 (13) to 1-8 (11) victory over Elphin on Sunday last in Elphin. Goalkeeper, Conor Fallon opened the St. Dominics account with a 35m free after 7 minutes. Elphin replied with a goal and two points by the 15th minute. Senan Farrell pointed in the 16th minute and then Michael McGloin finished a Conor Fallon 45 to the net in the 18th minute. Elphin responded well with three well taken points. A Kenny O’Beirne point and a well taken Eoin McCormack goal in the final minute of the half left it 2-4 (10) to 1-5 (8) to St. Dominics at the break. Both teams tired in the second half, in the heavy conditions, but St. Dominics defended very well, breaking at pace. Two Kenny O’Beirne points and a superb point from Michael McGloin cancelled out Elphins three second half points and St. Dominics held out in the final scoreless 10 minutes to record a well-deserved victory.
