Senior Football: Intermediate Championship: St. Dominics 1-12 Oran 1-11 St. Dominics produced one of their best performances this year to overcome a strong physical Kilmore in this Intermediate Championship encounter in Knockcroghery on Saturday last. Dominics started at a high tempo and raced into a three point lead by the 13th minute with points from Conor Fallon (2) and the very impressive Ultan Kelly but they were rocked back in the 15th minute with a Kilmore goal. Further points from Kilmore had the north Roscommon men ahead by 1-4 to 0-4 by the 27th minute. St. Dominics settled well just before half time and added three further points through Fallon and Kelly to leave it all square at the break 1-4 to 0-7. St. Dominics got a dream start to the second half with a well taken Michael McGloin goal and the sides exchanged three points apiece to give the home side a three point advantage midway through the second half with the St. Dominics points coming from Fallon, Kelly and the outstanding Kyran Dockery. Kilmore narrowed the gap to a single point with four minutes remaining with a brace of points. Malachy Gately’s men responded to the challenge with points from Eoin McCormack and U Kelly bringing it back to a three point lead. Kilmore fought to the very end scoring two points but could just not find the elusive equaliser and so St. Dominics now have another do or die encounter in two weeks time against Fuerty. An early John Murray goal put St. Brigids on the back foot but as the half wore on the Kiltoom men regained control. Two Anthony Kelly points left it 1-5 to 1-2 at the break. St. Dominics had it all square by the 40th minute with points from Paul Dolan (2), Aidan Fallon and Anthony Kelly but then St. Brigids hit a purple patch scoring 1-4 without reply. St. Dominics finished strongly with an Aidan Fallon goal and a pointed free from Kelly but it was too little too. Never the less this was a fine performance from our second team. The Minor Ladies took on Clann na nGael on Thursday 11th of August last in front of a good sized home crowd in what promised to be a thrilling encounter with high expectations on both sides. St. Dominic’s faced a stiff breeze in the first half which saw them kick several points wide. The half had end to end scores with good team work and skill. Aoife Gavin, Aimee O’Connor and Ciara Corcoran putting their names on the score sheet and Aisling Walsh and Savanah Cassidy doing an excellent job in defence. An injury to a Clan player saw both sides reduced to 14 players this was no problem to the St. Dominic’s girls. Half time saw St. Dominic’s take full advantage of the stiff breeze to pull ahead. Julie Healy and Caoimhe McIntyre got some good scores in this half and the game ended St. Dominic’s 6-20 to Clan na nGael 6-04, well done all.
